Members shall, when engaged in the normal course of caring for, breeding, selling, exhibiting and/or judging purebred dogs, abide by and uphold the principles of the Constitution of the Biewer Club Canada.
Members shall strive to gain respect for their participation and that of their fellow members in the foregoing activities and to make the best possible contribution to the improvement of the quality, temperament, health and welfare of the Biewer Breed at all levels.
Members shall not engage in the breeding or selling of dogs which are not purebred, either as a principal, agent, intermediary or otherwise include the breeding of Yorkshire Terrier or any other breed back into the Biewer - Biewer to Biewer breeding exclusively.
Members shall keep dogs in a clean, healthy environment and provide health protection for them through worming, inoculations and necessary veterinary care, as well as safe and sanitary living quarters.
Membership may be terminated, suspended or refused by the Biewer Club Canada Board of Directors for any conduct likely to prejudice or damage the Club or comprise the breed. Membership fees are due upon acceptance and are non refundable and not prorated.
MEMBERS, WHEN BREEDING, SHALL:
1. Conscientiously plan the placing of the resulting expected offspring.
2. Strive to maintain or improve the desired qualities of the Biewer breed.
3. Stand behind the quality and condition of their stock. A member selling a dog or puppy which he/she knows to have a physical condition or serious deviation from the standard which indicates that the breeding of the animal would be detrimental to the welfare of the breed will so inform the buyer, and the sale will be made with an agreement in writing signed by both the buyer and the seller that the dog is not to be bred. Additional agreements pertaining to spaying or neutering of the animal are encouraged
a) All breeding will be planned and aimed at the improvement of the breed with equal consideration to type, temperament, health and soundness. The member will be familiar with the standard and will do everything in his/her power to discourage breeding from clearly inferior specimens of the breed, or to any such specimen with his/her stud and/or bitch. No dogs exhibiting a disqualifying hereditary defect, unsound temperament including but not limited to nervous or aggressive dogs or dogs of poor health will be bred. Should an accidental breeding occur the breeder will notify the Biewer Club Board of Directors immediately and the resulting puppies will be neutered/spayed and placed in pet homes. No dogs should be bred with pet store stock.
b) Have a licensed practising veterinarian screen bitches and studs for infectious and hereditary diseases prior to breeding. The Biewer Club of Canada requires breeding pairs to have either a Bile Acid or Liver Panel as well as DNA testing by www.healthgene.com. The BCC must be notified of any blood work abnormalities. A dog with higher elevated numbers on a liver panel is required to undergo a pre and post bile acid and the breeder must notify the BCC of the results. The BCC also recommends that OFA and CERF certification be performed to verify the tested animal does not have Luxating Patella’s and is free from opthalmologic issues.
4. Abide by the following breeding duration
Biewer Bitches
a) Shall not be breed before twelve (12) months of age or until the second oestrous cycle and should not be breed past six (6) years of age.
b) Are not to be breed back to back more than three (3) times producing no more than two (2) litters in a twelve (12) month span.
Biewer Stud Dog
a) Should be used selectively and should be at least twelve (12) months of age
b) Shall only be bred to registered Biewer bitches.
c) Has no age restriction as long as he is healthy. Biewer Studs over ten (10) years of age require a veterinarian certification of heath and semen evaluation.
5. Those who have successfully breed and produced a Biewer litter
a) Shall keep Biewer puppies until at least twelve (12) weeks of age unless the puppy is being sold outside their country of birth then is permitted to sell at no less than 11 weeks of age.
b) Shall ensure Biewer puppies are properly inoculated, fecal tested and dewormed if necessary.
c) Shall have Biewer puppies either random Bile acid tested, Liver Panel or protein C tested prior to leaving for their new home. The decision on which test remains with the breeder and his/her veterinarian. The Biewer breeder must notify the BCC of any bloodwork abnormalities as the pup may require further bloodwork investigation prior to placement.
d) Shall not have any tail docking or ear cropping performed on any puppy.
e) Shall at his or her own discretion decide whether or not to remove dew claws
f) Shall not ship/place any Biewer puppies prior to reaching twelve (12) weeks of age. Only puppies being homed outside their country of birth shall be permitted to be shipped (at no less than 11 weeks of age) where it circumvents the need to have a rabies shot.
g) Permanent identification (Micro-chip or tattoo) is not mandatory, but left to the breeders discretion.
h) Are required to DNA test all breeding pairs and puppies sold on unrestricted breeding contracts.
i) Are required to have DNA testing done prior to registration. Biewer puppies sold as pets are not required to have DNA testing.
j) Shall have a Puppy Wellness Form completed by their veterinarian prior to placement and/or by the age of no later than five (5) months.
6. Shall confidentially disclose to the BCC Health Committee Chair all abnormalities in the bloodlines and progeny, including appropriate pedigrees in order to facilitate research and to avoid the passage of these defects.
7. Shall confidentially disclose to the BCC Health Committee Chair all abnormalities, any instances of liver shunt or any other life threatening congenital disease and to provide the BCC with the pedigrees of the sire and dam. The Breeder further agrees never to breed the same sire and dam together again. The siblings of the affected puppies should be neutered or spayed and sold as pets. If the puppies were sold prior to the breeder becoming aware of the defect the breeder shall make every effort to encourage the new owner to have his/her pup spayed or neutered and to never breed the pup.
8. Shall not supply animals to pet shops, commercial brokers or dealers.
9. Shall not supply animals for raffles, give-away prizes or similar projects.
10. Shall use a Non-Breeding Agreement when disposing of unspayed bitches or complete males not intended for future breeding and urge the spaying and neutering of such animals by the purchaser. This official agreement can also be used when selling any animal as it can he removed at any time at the discretion of the seller.
11. Shall at their sole discretion enter into a written contract when selling and or purchasing Biewer stud services. The contract should clearly state all the arrangements between the stud owner and client. Each party should receive a signed copy with any testing documents.
12. Shall comply with the provisions of the Live Stock Pedigree Act and the By-laws of Biewer Club Canada in respect to litter registrations and transfer of ownership.
13. Should urge that, at the purchaser's expense (or as otherwise agreed), a purchased animal he examined by a veterinarian within 48-72 hours.
14. Shall provide purchasers with details of proper feeding, general care and advisable inoculations.
